What is an affordance?


An affordance is the quality of an object or an environment which allows an individual to perform an action. In iTAFE terms, this means an affordance is the quality of the iTAFE PLE environment that allows learners to perform an action, either now or in the future.

So…..it is not about the technology itself but what we DO with the technology – and how the learner relates to the technology, eg the collaborative benefits afforded to the learner from us using the technology together - long after the training opportunity is over. Some examples are below:

Affordances are very individual and are not the same for everyone - it depends on the individual and their preferences and learning style.
